How the crew goes about trimming & pruning
Where a cut is made matters as much as which limb is cut. A cut at the branch collar lets the tree seal over it; a flush cut or a stub does not, and it becomes an entry point for decay that shows up as a hazard years later.
We do not top trees. Cutting a crown back to stubs produces a flush of weakly attached regrowth, and within a few years the tree is more dangerous than it was, not less. If somebody has quoted you for topping, that is worth knowing.

FAQ
Trimming & Pruning: the questions homeowners raise
When is the best time to prune trees in Tennessee?
Late winter, before the buds break, for most trees — the structure is visible, the tree is dormant, and the cuts seal as growth starts. Oaks are pruned only in dormancy here because of oak wilt, which spreads through fresh wounds in the growing season. Dead wood can come out any time. Summer pruning is for specific reasons, not routine.
Is topping a tree ever a good idea?
No. Cutting the top off a tree removes most of its food supply, leaves large wounds that rot, and forces a flush of weak, fast-growing shoots that are more likely to fail than what was removed. A tree that is too tall for its spot is reduced by proper crown reduction cuts back to lateral branches, or it is the wrong tree for the spot and comes out.
